The Benefits of Linked Data

A question over multiple data sources

“Which empty office spaces are near hospitals?”

“Which empty office spaces are near hospitals?”

  1. “empty office spaces” → Key Registry of Addresses (BAG)
  2. “hospitals” → Key Registry of Topography (BRT)
  3. “are near” → geospatial indexing

Downsides of data silo's

Short term

  1. Data must be copied
  2. Data must be loaded
  3. Data must be integrated
  4. Data must be indexed

Long term

  1. Data becomes outdated
  2. Data integration turns out to faulty
  3. Maintenance cost

So, what do we want instead?

  1. Query data at the source (no copy)
  2. Data published with certainty
  3. Data is always up-to-date
  4. Query data across sources
